Candlemass Marks Four Decades of Doom with Black Sabbath Cover
To celebrate 40 years of releasing music that emanates from the doom metal void, Candlemass have released a four track EP, Black Star, including a cover of Black Sabbath's infamously renowned metal hymn, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath."
While staying true to the essence of the original, Candlesmass's cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath executes a heavier rendition verging on gothic doom metal. A style which lends incredibly well to a track by the progenitors of the doom metal genre. Just like the original it's dynamic and epically charged. The vocals are raw, the instrumentals on-point and the music bridge towards the end is as foreboding as ever.
Band leader and Candlemass mastermind, Leif Edling added:
"Sabbath Bloody Sabbath needs no introduction, one of the best songs ever recorded if you ask me. Maybe not the obvious choice, but it's been a dream for me to do it one day and here it is! Our rendition of S.B.S. (Mass Bloody Mass?"
Adding to this Black Sabbath homage, Candlemass delivers a thoughtful rendition of Pentagram's classic "Forever My Queen." And for those who are just here for new Candlemass? There's two new tracks on this EP: Black Star and Corridors of Chaos.
This EP is a thrilling swansong for any fan of Candlemass. A band which has given so much to the doom metal genre and just metal in general.
