The moment that "Aerials in the Sky" lyric hits, young people are turning it off:
Music streaming app, Spotify, has found that System of a Down's song "Aerials" is no longer relevant.
Yes, you've read that right. Due to a certain lyric written by SOAD singer, Serj Tankian, Aerials has been found to no longer be relevant amongst Gen Z and the generations that follow.
The streaming service, which was founded on the basis of screwing over musicians out of their royalties, issued a statement early this morning:
"A recent study we ran on bands that emerged out of the ashes of the 'nu-metal' era has found the age group of 18-24, while still avid fans of the suave manic tones of those four Armenian brothers, are tending to turn off the song 'Aerials' after the lyric 'Aerials in the sky' is repeated a second or third time."
The statement, issued via press release, went on for a bit around statistical date before it summarised the report by saying, "It's believed the youth of today no longer finds System of a Down relevant due to the matter that oversized aerials will pulled off roofs in the late 2010s, as young people are of the belief there are no aerials in the sky. Only streaming services and UFOs."
I approached a young person, Darren Lockyer (M, 19), a St Mary's resident, to get his comment on this announcement. He had the following to say: "Yeah, nah mate. Hadn't heard anything about that. But it's right. It's not even relevant. There aren't no bloody aerials. My dad pulled that shit off the roof years ago. Don't believe that."
When I asked Darren to elaborate further and he asked his opinion on their political stance.
"They're what? Political? Mate, fuck that shit. I'm blocking System of a Down when I'm on spotify next."
