It wouldn't surprise any of you to know that I'm a big fan of serialised horror podcasts. Whether it's an ongoing story with a finite ending or an ongoing anthology - I lap that shit right up. One of those such podcasts is ASMR friendly horror podcast, Scare You To Sleep, which format tells a new horror story in the format that it can both lull you into a deep slumber best also scare the crap out of you at the same time!
Host Shelby Novak has done an incredible job at providing an easy gateway into the spooky genre if you've never listened to a horror podcast in your life or if you've a seasoned listener to horror podcasts. It's an overused statement but there is, in fact, something there for everyone.
The latest episode of Scare You To Sleep, that's episode 359 for those of you playing at home, is an original tale of Shelby's which questions this idea of obsession. What obsession can mean to two different people and just how dangerous it can become. The episode depicts a story of a woman who is falling out of love after finding out her fiancé is cheating on her, she then falls in love with someone she probably shouldn't and that's where the obsession starts. But it's not until a spell is cast and obsession turns into cheating, and loss turns into murder, and the main character becomes stalked to within an inch of her life - which makes you think shouldn't we be getting more books with her?
Appropriately entitled 'Limerence', episode 359 is dark, romantically charged, and is presented in this first-person found footage format which is absolutely scintillating.
Have a listen and you'll find out exactly why Scare You To Sleep is My Kind Of Weird.
