What happens in 'The Sandman' - Issue 2?
In issue 2 of The Sandman, titled "Imperfect Hosts," Dream, having escaped his imprisonment, returns to his realm, the Dreaming, only to find it in disarray. He is weak and needs to reclaim his power and tools.
Dream visits Cain and Abel, two of his oldest creations, who reside in the Dreaming. Cain presents Dream with a gift: a pouch of sand, one of Dream's lost tools. Dream then consults the Three Witches (the Hecateae) for guidance on finding his remaining tools: his helm and ruby. They inform him that his helm is in the possession of a demon in Hell, and his ruby is with a human who now resides in an insane asylum.
This issue further establishes the dark and surreal atmosphere of the series and sets Dream on his quest to regain his full strength and restore order to his realm.
